Great question! Please expect to learn about the body and how it handles stress. You will learn somatic exercises (e.g., breathing) and mindfulness and meditation exercises. We teach you these skills over video calls.
You will expect that the treatment is intense which means we typically see patients multiple times per week to focus on skill building. This intensity is usually kept for 2-3 weeks. Afterwards, the frequency may be reduced based on your individual need and treatment goals.
Each session lasts typically around 55 minutes. Depending on your availability, we may can modify the duration of the session.

Your mental health therapist only offers talk therapy and may talk about what breathing and meditation exercise to do. We provide a highly specialized experiential psychotherapeutic service focusing on skill building and symptom reduction. We don't just teach you what to do, we teach you how to do breathing and mindfulness.
You'll be a good fit for our services if your medical doctor has identified that your mental health is exacerbating your symptoms.
Dr. Peña has been a counselor since 2016. Years later, he spent 4 years studying stress in the rehabilitation discipline to complete my doctorate.

Yes. We do our best to help you teach your body reduce symptoms of chronic pain and/or functional neurological disorder through somatic and mindfulness and meditation exercises. We designed these exercises to specifically promote regulation of your nervous system, which is at the core of your symptoms.
We understand each person's case is unique. While many (95.8%) of our patients feel reduced pain or reduced functional neurological disorder symptoms, there is a small handful of patients who do not. We hope that you work with your therapist to discuss your situation and decide the best course of treatment for you.
